Chippewa County Historical Society

Chippewa City: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; junction of State Highway 7 and US Highway 59 in Montevideo; reconstruction of a town from the turn of the century with 23 buildings and two very old canoes. The Chippewa River dugout canoe, carbon dated between 1436 and 1522, is in the Gateway building and the Minnesota River dugout, carbon dated between 1626 and 1679, is in the Gippe Hut. Admission is free for adults $ 5, ages 6 to 17 $ 2, and ages 5 and under.

Home to an immaculate collection of fully operational and active WWII aircraft and vehicles, as well as works of art, bronze sculptures, interactive multimedia exhibits and a library.
